Just as Montgenèvre is ideally situated - at 1,860m, in France, near the border of Italy - so too is Claviere, except it sits on the Italian side of the borderline, at 1,760m.

It’s hard to fault this idyllic village. You can’t quite help but fall in love with this Haute-Alpes gem from the moment you set foot, or ski, onto its snowy terrain. The fact that the village of Montgenèvre has been around for more than a century - its village charm comes naturally, without pretence and literally oozes a sunny disposition on most days.

Imagine you are decompressing in a hot hub (jacuzzi) revived and relaxed, surrounded by snow, the stars are out on form, and you are drinking French Champagne or Italian Prosecco – the choice is yours! Now close your eyes and take yourself there for a minute… or a while.

Just as the sun likes to shine down on Montgenèvre for the most part of the year – there is rarely a dull moment when it comes to things to do – even in winter – and even if you are not a skier.

Sitting pretty at the foot of the slopes at 1,860m altitude, Montgenèvre is a small roadside mountain village and family-friendly ski resort in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, forming part of the Hautes-Alpes, just a mile from the French and Italian border.

Montgenèvre’s claim to fame is not only the fact that it literally put skiing on the map, being the birthplace of skiing in France, and the first official ski resort, in 1907 - it also sits above 1,800m and brags skiing accessibility up to 2,800m, of pure haute-Alpes powdery bliss AND it is one of the most snow sure resorts in the Alps.

Since the beginning of the summer, Montgenevre has been open and operating, albeit with a few new social distancing measures. The lifts, golf course and now even the Durancia pool and spa are all open for business. We at Go Montgenevre are up and running and here to stay. We appreciate that this has been a challenging time for everyone. For us, it has been without a doubt, the biggest challenge we have ever faced.
